Last night, Nae wanted to watch "Dr. Suess' How The Grinch Stole Christmas." I love this show for many reasons. Chuck Jones' animation. Dr. Seuss' word play. Boris Karloff's nasally twang. Oh, yeah, I should write Boris Karloff's sonorous, pendulous voice, because that's what I remember as a kid. Unfortunately, due to time considerations (the video is 53 minutes long) they can't show the whole thing without some... er... changes. One of those changes is speeding up the show to decrease the amount of time it takes to view it. To see what I mean, check this out, the original song at the correct speed:

The second one loses all sense of pacing, the menace of the deeper voice. It's far more like Alvin and the Chipmunks singing it, and for the same reasons.

Oh well, another childhood memory lost to commerce. And no, the irony of the fact that I'm displaying this information at Internet speed isn't lost on me.
