Wherein Reneé makes an assumption that isn't quite correct.
I was listening to the Splendid Table this morning and heard a really great recipe, which is basically this:
3 Cups heavy cream
1/2 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Sour Cream
Pinch salt
1 tbs gelatin
Put gelatin in bowl and add 2 tbs cold water to it to make it swell up and set aside
Put Sour cream in a larger bowl (one big enough for all ingredients) and set aside
Put Cream, sugar and pinch of salt in saucepan, add flavoring (some Vanilla worked for me), heat. Add Gelatin and stir until smooth (heat will help melt the gelatin)
Fold into Sour Cream
Chill and serve
So, Nae was making cookies.... lots of cookies, and her sister called. So she was taking a break from cookie making so I decided to make the above recipe. I had everything set and was heating the cream and called Nae in because, who can resist sweet, warm heavy cream. Bad for you but it tastes oh so good! Then I hear a strange sound from behind me. Seems that a cup of sour cream in a bowl can look a bit like whipped cream. And sour cream, delicious as it can be, has a very different taste from Whipped Cream, which is what Nae mistook it for.
I laughed. It was funny.
I'll let you know how the recipe comes out tomorrow.
Peace, gentle readers
