The Republican party is going on about the expense in President Obama's budget, but they really have no one to blame but themselves for part of that expense. Unlike his predecessor, President Obama isn't playing a shell-game when it comes to budgets.

Bush administration officials said on Monday that the cost of United States military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan had been omitted from President Bush's budget request for 2005. But they said the White House would make a separate supplemental request, after this year's elections, seeking up to $50 billion.

By ERIC SCHMITT AND ROBERT PEAR NY Times 2/3/2004

Mr. Obama will include cost projections for every year through the 2019 fiscal year to cover “overseas military contingencies” — nearly $500 billion over 10 years.
