Yesterday, Reneé and I went out to Sharon Woods, or, more specifically, Sharon Harbor. Last year, while Reneé was undergoing Chemotherapy for a blood disorder, we would go out every weekend the weather as nice, rent a rowboat and row out into the middle of the lake and she'd knit or nap while I read. And that's most of what we did yesterday. We spent the $5 for an annual parking pass and $14 for a boat pass, which means we can rent a rowboat for 6 hours at the one hour price ($10).
And yesterday was a nice day for it, not too hot, sun shining. Got to see herons and ducks, of course. And enjoy the peace and quiet. Right now, Reneé is chatting with her eldest. When she's done, we'll finish watching Dr. Who (New Earth) because she missed knowing who The Face of Bo and didn't understand what Martha and the Doctor were so suprised about at the end of Last of the Time Lords. Then we'll probably watch Tooth and Claw, and then I'll head downtown to my office so I can do some soldering while she cleans up and I'll come home to watch Out of Africa.
All of this reminds me, that I need to point out a huge incongruency with our non-elected President's Mother Day Weekend Radio Address (read full transcript here):
On this Mother's Day weekend, we remember the mothers grieving a son or daughter lost in the service to their country, as well as the children who have lost a mother in uniform. We share their pride in these wonderful Americans who have given everything to protect our people from harm. Nothing we say can ever make up for their loss. But on this special day, we hold them in our hearts and we lift them in our prayers.
I wish every mother listening this morning a blessed Mother's Day, including my own. And I have a message for every son and daughter listening this morning: Remember to tell mom the first thing tomorrow how much you love her.
Ya know, I can't really reconcile that last paragraph with those who can no longer receive those joyous wishes because their children died in the senseless violence that was instigated by our non-elected President's attempt to do what he perceieved his father to have failed to do (much against the wisdom of his father).
Ah well, enough of that.
Peace, gentle readers
