Thoughts about the weekend of 4/26-4/27 2008
Reneé, my partner in many things and the most important partner I have, is a Social Worker. And, while Social Workers may have the reputation of uncaring folks, I must say that I would want someone like Reneé involved if ever my kids needed that type of care. She has a child who was placed in foster care a long way from home and, once a month or more, she goes out on a home visit. Generally, I go with her, even though it means spending most of a Saturday in a car, it's quality time we can spend together, chatting while I drive and she knits.
Yesterday morning, as we headed out, we were going to a slightly different place to meet the foster family and, as I watched Reneé's TomTom direct us, I realized that I was very glad I'd gotten her out the door early to try to make a less rushed day of it. That's because we had to drive through Batavia, Ohio, home of the Maupin family. There was a lot of traffic, for folks were coming from far and wide to pay their respects to Matt Maupin and condolences to his family. We drove under a pair of fire trucks preparing for the procession:

Here you can see what they were doing.
We also passed a long stretch of chain link fence that had been turned into a memorial wall:

Once we were done with the visit, however, it was early enough that we stopped at the Serpent Mound. Here you can find pictures we took. Unfortunately, we got there only 15 minutes before it closed. But, knowing where it is now, we can easily find it again.
Then, this morning, we got up early and, given the beautiful weather, we headed out to the Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park. Were we took more pictures. I'll add more commentary on the pictures as I get a chance. One interesting note, though. In taking this picture of a wasp's nest inside a piece, I didn't realize, until I was editing the pictures at home, that there was a wasp there and that it was busy laying eggs in the nest.
Ah well, work to do, gentle readers.
Peace
